Isoiation of an entomogenous fungus , Entomophthoraceae ) , from migratory Ocean Ei : ynia deiphacis ( Entomophtherales : planthoppers collected over the Pacific

Four species of planthoppers were collected using net traps and an aspirator on a weather ship above the Pacific Ocean, An entornegenous fungus, thynia delphacis (Entomophthorales), was isolated from a specimen of the whitebacked rice planthoppeT, Sogatetla jurcijlera. The fungal isolate was infectious to 3 species of planthoppers, Sogatella.fttrcijbra, Nitaparvata lugens, Laocteiphax striateltus, and the green rice leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticcps, under laboratory conditions. The results suggest that E, deiphaeis migrated into Japan from overseas through migratory planthoppers.
